On the Same Date, Semeru is Back in Mourning
On Monday (05/12), the Semeru Volcano Observation Post (PPGA) officer, Mukdas Sofian, said that there had been nearly 30 eruptions during the observation period at 00.00-06.00 WIB.
More than 2,000 residents fled following the eruption of Mount Semeru in East Java, Sunday (04/12/2022), which sent hot clouds and lava into the surrounding areas.
PVMBG asked the public not to carry out any activities in the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan, 13 kilometers from the eruption center.
Outside of this distance, the community is expected not to carry out activities at a distance of 500 meters from the riverbank (river border) along Besuk Kobokan because it has the potential to be affected by expansion of hot clouds and lava flows up to a distance of 17 kilometers from the summit.
From the results of my online interview with a resident of the Senduro sub-district, namely Mas Dino. He said that until now there had been no news of any casualties and also that the eruption this time was not as severe as the eruption on December 4 last year. Based on temporary data from the BPBD, three villages in two sub-districts were affected by the Semeru eruption.
In Pronojiwo District, there are two affected villages, namely Supiturang Village and Curah Kobokan Village.
Meanwhile, Candipuro District reported that one village was affected, namely Sumberwuluh village.
Until now, the East Java BPBD is still collecting data regarding refugees and the impact of the damage
The East Java BPBD is also heading to the location to carry out the evacuation process.
"The East Java Provincial Disaster Agency and TRC PB BPBD Lumajang Regency are heading to the location for an assessment and evacuating residents around Mount Semeru," said Budi, Saturday (4/12/2021).
He appealed to the public to stay away from the area around the river which originates at Mount Semeru.
Mount Semeru erupted on Saturday (4/12/2021) which began with an eruption at 13.30 WIB.
This was confirmed by the Head of the Volcanology Center for Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Andiani.
Plt. Head of the Center for Data, Information and Communication for Disaster at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Abdul Muhari said the vibrations of hot clouds were recorded starting at 14.47 WIB with a maximum amplitude of 20 millimeters.
The data is based on observations from the Mount Semeru Volcano Observation Post (PPGA) at the Mount Sawur Post, Poncosumo Hamlet, Sumberwuluh Village, Candipuro District.
At 15.10 WIB, PPGA Pos Gunung Sawur then reported that the visuals of volcanic ash from hot cloud avalanches were very clearly observed towards Besuk Kobokan and smelled of sulfur.
In addition, visual reports from several location points also experienced darkness due to fog from volcanic ash.
It has been observed to this day (6/12) that Mount Semeru is still spewing volcanic eruptions and is on alert status. Residents have left the settlement affected by the vomit ash.
