Disaster Flood is a natural disaster that often occurs in Indonesia. This is due to overflowing water, leaking dams, clogged ditches and so on. This is what happened to the Limbung hamlet, Jada Bahrin village, Bangka. This flood occurred in 2017 which left the hamlet unsteady for 7 days. This is because the location of the village is surrounded by swamps and the presence of a large river flow. The tide of river water also triggers the emergence of the flood. Children who go to school in the city cannot go to school because of isolation.
The roads that usually connect the hamlet to the surrounding villages were all submerged in thigh-high floodwaters. Due to the flow of the river which is directly connected to the sea, it creates fear for people to pass through the flood. This is because of the fear of crocodiles in the river suddenly appearing and eating victims. So to reduce the risk, the people of Limbung hamlet chose not to go out of the hamlet. In addition to the hamlet Limbung, floods also often occur in the capital, Jakarta. This is due to the lack of trees in Jakarta, making the environment unstable.
To reduce the risk of flooding, we must protect the environment. Protecting the environment can start with small rights such as throwing garbage in its place, reducing the use of plastic, and not cutting down trees carelessly. Indonesia is always flooded every year. Especially if in the rainy season, many parts of Indonesia experience flooding. So to reduce the occurrence of floods, Indonesian people should have an awareness of how to overcome them.
