How To Change Oil In Automobile

by Evan Adhyt Rahmat

Nothing beats fresh oil for maximum engine performance. An engine has various parts that move at high speed. These moving parts tend to cause friction that generates heat. Regular oil changes keep your car properly lubricated and reduce the amount of heat your engine generates. An oil change also removes dirt and debris, which slows the engine down. As the engine heats up due to old oil, it wears out and eventually stops working properly.. Even seemingly easy tasks like changing the oil might feel overwhelming, if not outright unattainable, when it comes to maintenance. However, compared to bringing your car to a nearby fast lube business, changing your own oil might be more practical and less expensive. You may learn how to do it properly, safely, and economically from us. Follow these steps to change your own automobile oil :

Step 1 : jack it up the car and then open the oil plug underneath The Automobile. The automobile has to be raised high enough so that you have room to work underneath it. Most modern cars are fitted with a plastic underbody to improve aerodynamics and protect critical components under the engine. Covers must be removed to access the vehicle's oil pan and oil filter. Most subfloors are held in place with a combination of bolts, screws, or plastic clips that can be loosened with a simple tool.

Step 2: Drain it and unplug it, Place your oil container bucket, oil drain pan, oil reservoir, or any other substantial liquid-holding container—so that the oil will drain into it without splattering all over the place or creating a mess in any other manner. Unscrew (counterclockwise) with a suitable wrench to unscrew and remove the drain plug. Grasp the drain plug and remove it. When you pull it away from the oil pan, the oil will start to spill out. Let the engine coast for five minutes or until the oil flow slows down a bit.

Step 3: Discard the previous filter locate the oil filter It is the softball-sized cylindrical part that is fastened to the engine via screws. Using your hand or an oil filter wrench (you'll probably need the latter), unscrew the oil filter (turn it counter-clockwise) and allow the oil to come out the top and drip into the reservoir. Wait for the flow to stop and remove the filter completely. Before installing the new filter, make sure there are no old oil filter seals (thin rubber O-rings) left. Before changing the drain plug and oil filter, it is recommended to wipe the oily surfaces.

Step 4: Drain Plug In and Turn On Filter, Replace the drain plug, snugly but not overly tightening it: The oil pan and drain plug may be damaged by after overtightening. If we damaging it, in 10 minutes the engine will brake after we turn it on the engine. The same rule applies when installing filters. Do not overtighten. Twist it until it's "finger-tight," then turn it a little more until it's snug.

Step 5 : Fill it back up with oil,Replace your undertray and lower the car back to the ground after replacing the oil filter and drain plug. Open the hood and remove the oil cap marked with an oil can icon. Using the funnel, fill the engine with the amount of oil specified by the manufacturer.

Step 6: Check for leaks and the oil level Finally, use the dipstick to check that your oil is at the correct level after allowing a few minutes for the oil to settle into the pan. Finally start your car and let it idle for warm up the engine.

Congrats now you can change your own car oil. I know its not easy for the first time but you’ll get used to it and you just save bunch of money. Feels good right?
